JOB SUMMARY

Seed Co Malawi Limited is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested internal candidates (currently working with the Company) to fill the position on Seed Production Inspector, within the Production Department. The details are as follows;

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

BSc in Agronomy/Horticulture/Seed Systems/General Agriculture

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Recruit suitable growers for seed production.
2. Organise and conduct seed production training for the recruited growers.
3. Ensure all contracts are signed prior to foundation seed dispatches.
4. Ensure that right quantities of basic seed are procured/ sourced from accredited suppliers
5. Ensure that basic seed is distributed to contracted growers in time.
6. Assist with planting – planting methods, ratios, splits etc.
7. Proper fertiliser management for seed crops for optimum yields.
8. Assist growers in pest and disease identification & control.
9. Ensure optimum crop rotations and distance or time isolation to avoid contamination.
10. Ensure correct rouging to enhance genetic purity.
11. Ensure sodium molybdate is effectively sprayed.
12. Timely sampling of seed crops for laboratory, molybdenum, grow-out & genetic purity tests.
13. Carry out on-farm seed certification and that samples are timely send for laboratory analysis.
14. Advise on proper seed harvesting methods and monitor the process to avoid seed damage.
15. Carry out checks on seed processing and presentation of harvested seed.
16. Carry out shed duties as and when required.
17. Carry out seed sampling at distribution depots on request from the sales & marketing department.
18. Properly file and maintain inspection reports and other certification details.
19. Summarise & report on a weekly basis the state of the seed crops in production.
20. Ensure that all growers sign and upholds the seed contract.
21. Provide accurate seed estimates and reconcile certification vs. deliveries.
22. Supervise fumigation before seed deliveries and ensure seed delivered meet prescribed standards.
23. Report on seed deliveries and that all deliveries are booked prior to delivery.
24. Ensure seed deliveries are in line with set deadlines.
25. Ensure that all foundation seed not planted is returned before the due date as specified in the contract.
26. Carry out any other duties as assigned by superiors.
27. Monitor & report on competitor activities, and attend to grower complaints.
28. Maintain cordial relations with seed growers & other relevant stakeholders like Seed Services Unit.
29. Assist in ensuring compliance to ISO standards
