I salute the good response of SC659 under both dryland and overhead irrigation system. No doubt the variety can return the country to the food basket of Africa status.

On the 1st of October, I planted SC 659 and had an average of 12.9 tons per hectare. With these standards you will give our nation its pride back, of being the bread basket of Africa.

Despite the partial drought and fall army worms in 2014, SC719 was not negatively affected. The variety was able to resist the damage from the pest and exhibited tolerance to diseases such as Cob Rot and Grey Leaf Spot, producing big cobs, resulting in high yields

I began growing SC719 in 2014. Incidentally that season in our area was characterised by a partial drought. And one notable attribute is its ability to tolerate drought.

Mr & Mrs Apakuti, SC 727 – Chipinge

Farmer

We planted SC 659 and 727 and I am grateful for the yield we obtained. On 659 we managed to average 10.7 tons per hectare for despite challenges in erratic rain pattern and on 727 we managed to average 13.4 tons per ha. We are quite satisfied with what we obtained on both varieties and we are looking forward increasing our hectares for the said varieties this 2022-23 farming season.

After attending a Seed Co farmer meeting, I learnt about SC 303, an ultra early maturing that is widely adopted and easy to manage. Despite it maturing early, it gives good cobs with good grains that are shinny and not easily attacked by weevils.

After a SeedCo Field Day at GART, I got interested in SC637 and I panted a 25kg in 2017. Germination was almost 99 percent; I managed to harvest 156 by 50kg bags. It produces long cobs, has good standability, is easy to harvest, has good resistance to weevils and has weight on the scale…
