On Thursday, 11th June 2026, SeedCo Zambia joined the global community in commemorating World Environment Day, which is annually marked on 5th June, with a meaningful and hands-on celebration at our farm premises at SeedCo HQ in Lusaka.

Under this year’s theme, “Inspired by Nature, for Our Climate, and for Our Future,” staff members came together for a tree planting activity, and a litter pick around the company premises, planting a total of 200 trees on the day.

The commemoration was led by Managing Director, Mrs. Grace Tumeo Bwanali, who set the tone for the occasion. “The trees we are planting are more than just seedlings in the ground. They represent our commitment to protecting the environment,” she said.

Mrs. Bwanali challenged staff to reflect on their daily habits, from responsible plastic disposal and water conservation to energy usage at home.

She noted that plastic waste remains a serious environmental concern, taking decades or even centuries to decompose, and urged staff to consider the legacy their actions leave for future generations.

“If we do not take the initiative to clean up our environment, who will? We must lead by example,” she said.
Safety, Health and Environmental Manager, Valentine Mutale, echoed the significance of the day for SeedCo as a business. “As a company operating in the seed industry, everything we do depends on natural resources, healthy ecosystems, and a stable climate,” he noted, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability as central to its operations.

As part of its ongoing environmental stewardship, SeedCo Zambia continues to encourage staff to practise recycling and proper waste management through designated waste stations on site and off site.
The events of yesterday reflect SeedCo Zambia’s belief that caring for the environment is not a once-a-year event, but a daily commitment, to our communities, our country, and the generations who will come after us.
