Overview
Continuous Research and Development is a key component of Seed Co Zambia’s functions. Our Research Team has continually been striving to come up with better performing varieties which guarantee high yields to our farmers. Special emphasis has also been put on the Laboratory Facilities that were set up at the Business Complex 3 years ago, to test Seed Co seed for germination, number determination, moisture and purity. Quality Control also falls under this department.
Maize
The research team is proud of a medium maturing variety with cob rot tolerance traits, which has been internally released at Group level but still awaiting SCCI (Seed Control and Certification Institute) release this year.
Wheat
The research team is working on varieties with disease tolerance that will surpass existing varieties such as SC Shungu and SC Nduna
Soya
The research team is working on varieties which will beat the existing ones (e.g. SC Spike) in terms of yield potential
