Accounting Assistant – Credit Control

Applications are invited to fill the position of Accounting Assistant – Credit Control to be based in Nairobi.

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE.

Reporting to the Business Analyst, Management Accountant & Finance Executive the incumbent will be responsible for managing credit control functions, ensuring timely collection of receivables and maintaining accurate financial records related to credit activities.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage accounts receivable to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices.
  • Conduct credit checks on new and existing customers to assess creditworthiness.
  • Prepare and issue invoices, statements, and reminders to customers promptly.
  • Resolve any discrepancies or disputes with customers effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of all credit control activities and prepare regular reports for management.
  • Serve as the secretariat for the credit committee, organising meetings, preparing agendas, and taking detailed, accurate minutes.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail in minute-taking and documentation to ensure clear and comprehensive records.
  • Prepare well-structured, insightful reports and presentations for the credit committee and management.
  • Perform analytical reviews on credit data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation and information related to credit control.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth financial operations as needed

Qualifications and skills required

Applicant must possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on credit control.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Sage 300) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and credit management processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact professionally with suppliers, customers, and colleagues.
