Hybrid is the key to success

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Permanent secretary of agriculture, mechanisation and irrigation development, Dr CDE Ringson Chitsiko at the Prime Seed Co Stapleford Research Station field day on April 23 to May 2017 advised farmers to use  hybrid genetics, that are adaptable to the changing climatic conditions, greater resistance to diseases, better nutritional content, greater physiological efficiency and above all increased yields. He also took the opportunity to announce that the much awaited open field tomato Akela is finally here successfully tried and commercialised. This fresh market determinate variety is yielding up to 195tons per hactare and with an excellent shelf life of the fruits after harvesting coming to the 39 days.
